The main aim of project C04 is to identify the effect of chemical composition and TMT parameters on the bulk property profile of Ni-based solid solutions. We will focus on binary Ni-Cu alloys and subsequently broaden into ternary Ni-Cu-Al materials. We are especially interested how defect phases obtained by TMT procedures such as hot and cold rolling coupled with annealing can be utilized to adapt the bulk properties.

A basic microstructure characterization is conducted by means of SEM, EDS, and EBSD. The resulting mechanical properties are screened by tensile testing, impact toughness tests and hardness tests. Identified hot-spots for changes in properties are investigated in higher detail and resolution and guide the probing of relevant changes of underlying mechanisms and defect phases. The obtained relationships and causalities between synthesis parameters, the resultant microstructural features, and mechanical properties provide the basis for maturation towards the impact of defect phases on bulk properties and hereby provide the basis for the transition to industrial production and technical application at a later stage.
